History of the cave

A mineral jewel

North of Les Eyzies, in the heart of the Périgord Noir, enjoy the splendour of the Grand Roc Cave. Discovered by Jean Maury in 1924 and opened to the public in 1927, this cave is set in an impressive cliff overlooking the Vézère valley.

Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and a “Grand Site de France”, this masterpiece of nature unveils a trail of crystals and calcite, stalagmites and stalactites that will take your breath away.
